Because our team is made up of individual people and ‘staff’ simply does not describe their action, intention or value.

It’s actually meaningful when you change the vocabulary in education settings.
‘Staff room’ becomes ‘Team room’, ’Staff code of conduct’ becomes ‘Team code of conduct’ etc etc
When using the word ‘team’ there is a ‘warm’ difference – a feeling of togetherness and working towards a shared goal with a value in long term personal relationships.

We ask so much of the individuals that work for us – physically and mentally.
We are asking them to emotionally connect with our ethos. Be part of a group that builds genuine, authentic relationships so there is a ‘feel’ – a sense of belonging-connection.

How? – Of course a careful and detailed induction helps to set shared values, emerge a culture. But this is followed by ‘on the floor’ support. We shadow, co regulate, reflect, offer opportunities to progress, spend time and listen.

Maybe it’s because our team is small and beautifully formed, but we know that when the team is working, the children succeed.

The result is happily demonstrated in our ethos ‘Connection – Community- Creativity’

At Empshott LLP-NWB, grateful this week for an amazing hard working team.
