As we prepare for Halloween and the half term break , we have been reflecting that such celebrations can be both exhilarating and a time of difficulty for our cohort.
However there is profound importance to creating moments of joy within marked occasions-
Building joyful experiences into the curriculum is not only about fun- it’s essential for growth and well being. It also brings us closer within our community.
The importance of feeling JOY!
Natural serotonin fosters feelings of happiness, calm, emotional stability helping us feel balanced and resilient. Dopamine, the reward chemical, reinforces motivation and enthusiasm, encouraging our young people to stay engaged and excited.
Endorphins provide natural relief from stress, creating a sense of ease and comfort that boosts confidence.
Meanwhile, adrenaline brings energy and exhileration, allowing young people to fully immerse themselves in play and exploration. Together these ‘joy chemicals’ support a positive cycle of emotional, physical, and mental benefits helping young people feel safe, inspired, and open to learning and connection.
When young people experience awe and wonder in their learning, they are not only thrilled and curious about the world but also less fearful of the unknown.
By developing the relational approach and developing trusting relationships between adults and young people we are able to support our young people to feel safe while they explore these powerful emotions in a safe and regulated way, giving them the chance to be fully present in each joyful moment.
We’ve had the pleasure of witnessing this pure joy on the faces of our young people at Newton Wood Barn this week and it’s a joy we are excited to share with you all.
Making teabag ghosts, Mummy sausage rolls and ghost bananas. Completing an on trend ‘ghost shoot’ in our forest ( no need for photo permissions, phew!) and of course the tradition of pumpkin carving.
Thank you everyone that has visited and shown support- we have had some great collaboration from other AP’s and schools.
