Today was a wonderful community day in the garden as children, young people and East Tisted adults came together to help prepare and label the community vegetable and flower beds.
With 75 beds to care for, there has been plenty to do, and the energy and enthusiasm from everyone involved has been fantastic.
One of the highlights has been NWB creating signage for the seed beds. This has involved work from the forest and woodland. Each sign thoughtfully named after British fauna, helping to connect the garden to the natural landscape around us.
So far, the community has planted beetroot, peas, carrots and radish, with more to come as the season progresses—while keeping a careful eye on those late frosts!
The garden is becoming a living classroom. Children are learning about the seasons, horticulture, soil science and plant growth, all the while spending time outdoors.
Just as importantly, they are experiencing the benefits of fresh air, movement and the calming effect of being in nature, which is so important for mental health and wellbeing.
From the youngest helpers to the oldest gardeners, this space truly belongs to everyone. Working side by side has created a strong sense of community, connection and shared purpose. A real sense of belonging! This is inclusion…
There was a real buzz in the garden today and a deep sense of pride in what everyone achieved together. We are incredibly grateful to be part of something that brings people together, nurtures nature, and supports the well-being of our whole community.
