Its a stark read.

Where the recent TV series ‘Adolescence’ shone a light on the issue faced by a teenage boy, it forced viewers to observe how boys navigate a confusing, complex world of social media, male expectations and the feeling of belonging. It was raw, and it was made even more poignant as this was a story of a ‘typical’ bright boy from a good and caring family.

The Centre for Social Justice’s recent report, The Lost Boys, provides a broad picture. Where the series ‘Adolescence’ presents a crisis at the extremes, ‘The Lost Boys’ highlights a slow-burning, systemic issue that spans the socio-economic spectrum. It reveals widespread disengagement, underachievement, and emotional struggle among boys across society – not just those on the fringes.

When we hear that Andrew Tate and Incel involvement is the symptom and not the cause, what do we, as a society and as educators need to do?

It makes it even more important that our group of young men have role models, are given skills and a sense of community, purpose and comaderie.

This is especially true at our AP where our cohort of young men are on a different path as not in mainstream and therefore not in mainstream ‘inclusion’
It makes it all the more important to invest and change the experience of their education while in their childhood and adolescence.

So we are lucky to have a fantastic project leader that is a great mentor, understands what the group needs- and also lets them take risks safely – from woodwork, bows and arrows, catapults and Go Karts. Grateful
