Here at Newton Wood Barn, food is more than just fuel- it’s a chance to connect with the land, each other, and a more sustainable way of living.

Recently, our team and young people have been looking into what’s really on our plates and asking some big questions:
• Thinking about where does our food come from?
• How does it impact our health, our community and even the planet

We’ve been making small but meaningful changes like choosing ingredients that are local and naturally grown. Not only are these choices better for us they also support soil health, encourage biodiversity, and reduce our carbon footprint. It’s all about shining a light on the connections between food, sustainability and wellbeing.

To deepen this journey further over the coming months we are excited that we will be starting to work with some fantastic nutritionists to help us better understand the benefits of different foods and their connection to our wellbeing.

Inspired by ideas and research like GAP’S ( Gut and Psychology Syndrome) approach we’ll gently explore how what we eat not only influences our bodies but our moods and minds. We are also inspired by the groundbreaking work of Dr Stephen Porges on the polyvagal theory linking gut health to our nervous system and emotional resilience.

We will be inviting our families and young people to join us on this journey making small and practical changes to how we approach food together. These changes will be designed to be accessible and empowering focussing on building positive relationships with what is on our plates. We want this to be a celebration nourishing both our bodies and our minds – not a source of pressure or shame.

By creating an environment that encourages curiosity and discovery and small joyful steps we aim to nurture not just healthy eating habits but also a deeper connection with the food and world around us.

We’re excited to see how small shifts rooted in positivity and care can support out community in thriving.
